New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who underwent surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon just 11 weeks ago, is now slated to return to practice. Despite this development, his participation in actual games for the remainder of the season remains uncertain.

Rodgers, nearly 40 years old, sustained the injury during the Jets’ season-opener against the Buffalo Bills. Initially presumed to be out for the entire season, coach Robert Saleh clarified that Rodgers’ return to practice is part of his rehabilitation rather than immediate preparation for game time.

The upcoming practices will involve limited engagement, such as throwing sessions with teammates, yet will avoid any contact to prevent jeopardizing Rodgers’ recovery. Saleh emphasized that Rodgers will not engage in activities that could pose a risk to his rehabilitation process.

Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers revealed that although he’s steadily progressing, he hasn’t reached the point of being fit enough to make a definitive decision about returning to play.

“While I am getting better, I haven’t reached the required level of fitness to resume play,” stated Rodgers.

Despite his age, Rodgers is exhibiting an extraordinary and speedy recovery from his injury, leaving room for speculation about a potential comeback in December, especially if the Jets are in contention for a playoff spot. The NFL.com reported that the team has a 21-day window to assess Rodgers’ progress during practice while he remains on the injured reserve list.

“I’ll return when I am fully fit. It’s crucial to assess whether I can contribute positively without risking further harm to myself or the team,” Rodgers remarked.

The Jets, currently standing at 4-7, have six games left in the regular season. If given the green light for return, Rodgers might feature in the game against the Washington Commanders on December 24, marking the Jets’ third-to-last fixture of the season.

Before his trade to the Jets, Rodgers spent 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, securing a Super Bowl win in 2011 and multiple MVP awards throughout his illustrious career, marked by exceptional accuracy and record-setting achievements.
