Stephen Colbert won’t be hosting “The Late Show” this week due to health reasons. Colbert revealed on Monday that he’s had to cancel the upcoming episodes of his show as he recovers from surgery for a ruptured appendix. In his statement, Colbert humorously speculated about possible causes like a “Turkey overdose” or a “Gravy boat capsize” but clarified that it was indeed the surgery that led to the cancellation.
Expressing gratitude for the care provided by his doctor, Colbert also thanked his wife and kids for their support during his recovery. He cheekily added a touch of humor, mentioning that any communication intended for his appendix should now be directed to his pancreas.
The scheduled guests for this week’s show, including Jennifer Garner, Baz Luhrmann, Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammer, Barbara Streisand, and musical guest Jon Batiste, will have their appearances postponed as Colbert takes time off to recuperate. This isn’t the first time Colbert has faced such a situation, having previously had to cancel shows due to testing positive for Covid-19, as per a statement shared on social media.
The “Late Show,” airing on CBS and available for streaming on Paramount+, typically airs Monday through Friday at 11:35 p.m. EST.
