In a recent incident, a US warship, the USS Thomas Hudner, effectively thwarted “multiple one-way attack drones” launched from areas under Houthi control in Yemen. The interception took place during the ship’s patrol in the Red Sea, as reported by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). Fortunately, no damage was inflicted on the USS Thomas Hudner, and the crew members remained unharmed.

Tensions in the Red Sea region have escalated in the aftermath of the Israel-Hamas conflict. Yemen’s Houthi rebels, with backing from Iran, have claimed responsibility for launching ballistic missiles and drones toward Israel. Notably, the recent hijacking of the Galaxy Leader cargo ship by the Houthis in the Red Sea, carrying approximately 25 crew members, has heightened concerns in the area.

Responding to the incident, the United States has unequivocally demanded “the immediate release” of the seized cargo ship and its crew in the Red Sea. This stern call was made by State Department spokesperson Matt Miller on Monday.
